Suggested First Tasks
We reached out to Carpentries and asked them what they suggest freshly minted rigor champions interested in becoming involved with their community do to get a sense of the culture and vision. These are listed below, and we strongly recommend giving them a shot!
Sign up for Instructor Training!
The Carpentries workshops are taught by volunteer instructors, but in order to ensure that these are of a high quality, instructors must first undergo training. If you’re ready to take the next step, you can learn how to be an effective teacher and even pick up a trick or two by signing up here!
Review the Help Wanted Listings!
A community of this size always has something or other that needs doing — The Carpentries have made chipping in as easy as possible by listing all actionable opportunities to help out and contribute here. Take a look and see whether there’s anything you could help with!
Contribute to the Lessons!
The Carpentries lessons are community-built, so a great way to get involved is by going through these lessons and suggesting potential improvements on their GitHub.
Join an upcoming Carpentries workshop!
There are workshops happening all over the world all of the time, so if you want to get a sense of what Carpentries is all about, take a look at their list of upcoming workshops and see whether there will be one near you soon.
